Greta Neethling

Greta Neethling is a dedicated Cytotechnologist who has been with the Tygerberg NHLS since 2002. She has a strong passion for teaching and is an active member of the SMLTSA Executive Committee. Currently pursuing a PhD in Anatomical Pathology at Stellenbosch University, Greta’s research includes a public health component aimed at reducing the loss to follow-up of patients with cervical pre-cancer. Her commitment to advancing patient care and education highlights her invaluable contributions to the field.

Dr. Yvonne Prince

Dr. Yvonne Prince is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the SAMR Cardiometabolic Health Research Unit in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Wellness Sciences at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Her field of interest is in Microbiology.

Dr. Prince’s research has garnered significant attention, resulting in multiple radio interviews highlighting the impact of her findings on public health. Recently, she was awarded a Self-Initiated Research (SIR) grant from the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) to further her investigations. Additionally, she serves as a section editor for Microbiology in the South African Medical Laboratory Technology Society Journal (SMLTSA), contributing her expertise to support scientific communication in her field.

Dr. Wendy Solomon

Dr. Wendy Solomon, PhD, has been President of the Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists of South Africa (SMLTSA) since 2021. She is also a Senior Lecturer and Program Coordinator in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Dr. Solomon serves on the SMLTSA Executive Committee, contributes to the Scientific Advisory Committee, and is the sub-editor for the Journal of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology South Africa. With a background in medical technology and a passion for health science education and advancing the field of medical laboratory science, her research focus areas are DNA methylation in diabetes and developments in health science education

Theresa Van Jaarsveld

Theresa Van Jaarsveld is a Medical Technologist with specialties in Clinical Pathology and Haematology. Her professional interests include education and training in quality assurance, point-of-care testing (POCT), phlebotomy, and pre-analytics. As a member of the SMLTSA Executive Committee, Theresa provides valuable support to the association's office administration.

She is also an active member of the Phlebotomy Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), where she contributes to advancements in the evolving healthcare landscape. Passionate about the regulation of POCT in South Africa, Theresa collaborates with various stakeholders to drive progress in this critical area.
