Articulation from LA to GT is dependent upon employers having vacancies for Student Medical Technicians at any of their HPCSA accredited training sites and meeting the academic requirements to apply for such a position. The HPCSA has determined that the minimum requirement for acceptance as a student GT is a matriculation certificate. Mathematics, English and at least one science subject are the preferred subjects.
Once you have applied and been accepted to fill a vacant position, you will be required to fulfil all the conditions as specified under Examinations – Medical Technicians.
Medical Technician (GT) to Medical Technologist (MT)
Qualified Medical Technicians may articulate to the qualification of Medical Technologist provided they meet the academic entrance requirements of the higher education institution (HEI) to study the Diploma in Biomedical Technology – usually matriculation with English, mathematics, physical science and life sciences (biology). The HEI may offer the course either full time or, in some cases, part-time with lectures in the evenings or over weekends (often referred to as a Conversion Course). Please contact your nearest HEI to obtain details regarding the study of this diploma.
Once you have received the diploma, you will be required to fulfil all the conditions as specified under Examinations – Medical Technologists.
